The demand for secure data processing is becoming increasingly prevalent, driven by the rise of bioinformatics. We present a survey of requirements and implementations for delivering secure but performant computing environments for processing controlled-access data. We will describe the varying levels of security required, and some of the security measures taken to meet those requirements. The implementations presented are all private cloud infrastructure implemented using OpenStack. However, many of the measures would translate to hybrid and public cloud use cases.
